INGLEWOOD NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondent). The school picnic was fortunate in the inagniiicent weather vouchsafed to the patrons of this time-honored function, a very large train being safely despatched on Thursday morning to the glad sea waves. It was interesting to note what a large number of people left the train at New Plymouth, presumably to indulge in shopping, which is, of course, excellent for New Plymouth. The Catholic bazaar, which eventuates ver ' shortly, is making its influence felt in the shape of books of tickets on various arlieles to be disposed of by the common or garden ralTle. They are, to judge by the frequency ef the request .to "have a shilling on" very numerous us well as valuable. The weather lias taken a turn which inclines towards swimming bath matters, and I should like to know how it is that as f;"- as J can ascertain, no organised iiisti.. ■tion is given in swimming to the yirl pupils of the r-liool, who hiivc to attend (here at staled time-. I was always under the impression that to teach swimmiiui required the presence of a ieaclicr of the art who was necessarily in the water himself, but perhaps I am wrong. Anyhow, the fact remains that the girls are not progressing in swimming, a fact which they will be sorry for some day. The Horticultural Society will, it is to be hoped, have a good number of entries for their show at the end of the month. The weather is helping tilings along for them very nicely.
