1 A party of live with Guide Murphy loft the' Mountain House yesterday morning' at si\" o'clock and reached the summit at eleven. The party consisted of Messrs. G. Fenwick and S. Smith (Dunedin), E. 0. Kerr (Timaru). Peter Barr (Dunedin). and \V. Weston, llu 1 weather was delightful and the clijnli most enjoyable. The southern pressmen leave this morning for their homes. It is expected that the Government will shortly announce its nominees for the two vacancies on the directorate of the Bank of New Zealand, caused by the retirement of Messrs Harold Boauchamp and J. M. Johnston, under the Bank of New Zealand and Banking Act Amendment Act, 1808. The Government appoints four directors, the others "being Messrs William Milne and D. J. Nathan. Mr. Beauchamp, who was chairman o! (he hank for many years, was recently reappointed in succession to Mr. J. B. Iteid. and he is acting chairman during Mr. Kennedy's absence in Great Britain. Messrs Beauchamp and Johnston retire on March 31. Their successors (if any) must he appointed by the Governor in Council not later than the first Wednesday in March. The election of a ihairman is held in April.
