I WOOL SALES. i IBy Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, March 4. The wool sales opened strong at par. There was an advance of 7%d. Bank ol New South Wales £3B to £4O; Union, £nfi to £SB; National of New Zealand, £5 os to £5 15s. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable advices from its London office: —The sales have opened with strong competition and large attendance of buyers . There is a good I demand for all kinds of wool. Total quantity New Zealand wool available 75,000 bales. Prices for medium crossbred and coarse crossbred are higher 5 per cent, to 7Ms per cent. Fine crossbred | prices are unchanged. j HIGH COMMISIONER'S CABLE. i By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. The following is the High Commissioner's cable, dated London. March 4, regarding the opening of colonial wool sales: —The wool sales have commenced with a large attendance of buyers. There, is great demand in the market. Home and Continental buyers competing freely. American buyers are cautious on account of the uncertainty regarding i tariffs. For consumption there is a large demand, exceeding the supply .The market is strong, and all stocks are advancing. Merino fine crossbreds are unchanged; medium crossbreds and coarse crossbreds. a half-penny per lb higher i than last sale; 70,400 bales of New Zca- ' land wools were catalogued.
