HILLSBOROUGH.

Suppliers to the local- creamery on Saturday' morning wore compelled to return home without the usual hack load of skim milk. The emptiness of the cans was not due to any accident, but simply to the fact that the Bell Block Company, keeping abreast of the times, had installed a casein precipitation plant at the Hillsborough creamery, which was in working order for the first time. Suppliers can now take back ■whey for their calves. Some exceptionally good prices have been realised for weancr calves by several farmers in the district. Mr. 3. R. Hill disposed of his prize-winning pair of grade lieifeis in the grade section at the show for dairy purposes at the auction sale on Friday for £5 5s a-piece. and on Saturday he disposed of a nice line of seven colored heifers for £3O 10s. Mr. W. H. Bishop also disposed of the same number for the same price. Two of Mr. Bishop's animals were second at the recent show in the same class. This goes to show that it pays farmers to exhibit at the show. The New Plymouth Show was very unfortunate in the matter of the weather for People's Day. This could aptly he termed New Plymouth weather, as out here the weather was unite fine enough for saving crop*. Hillsborough was very successful m the prize-list at the show. Quite a large number of entries were sent in from here, and quite a number of prizes will come to the district. Among the prize-winners wore Mr. T. Smellie, with bis horse Monarch; Mr. N. W. Hill, with his Jersey bull, Larue's Bonny Boy. since purchased bv Mr. Fagan. of Russell, secured a first; Mr. IT. 0. Sampson a first and second in bacon pigs: Miss Locks a first with a horse; and Messrs J. K. Tlill ami W. H. Bishop, first and second respectively, with a pair of grade heifers for dairy purposes, since July 1, 1012. whilst the former got a first and second with pigs also. The sports to be held on March 20 are already exciting much interest. It i«4 stated' that this year they are to be better than ever before. Recollections of last year's gathering makes one doubt the possibility of this. Messrs IT. Okey MP. and -T. S. Connett (chairman of the Bell Block Dairy Co.) have been asked to act as judges. Mr. Pat \\ ebster has kindly consented to act as starter.
