PUKEKURA PARK BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The nana! meeting of the Pukeknra Park Board was held last night, when there were present: Messrs. R. C. Hughes (chairman), W. L. Newman. Harris Ford. W. Amburv and the secretary, C. 11. Drew. CURATOR'S REPORT. W. W. Smith, curator of the Park, reported that the chief or almost the only work, employing the Park staff during the past month had"been that of mewing, general cleaning and burning rubbish. They were somewhat at a disadvantage in Pukekura Park in having to cart the rubbish long distances lo enable them to dispose of it. He >egretted that a little more expense would be required on the hand cart for repairs. When repaired they proposed to go on with the work of levelling up the walks with clay, where such was required. It was important that this class of work should be done before the winter months set in. The volume of water in the upper lake continued low, but 'here was no further growth of pond weeds in any of the lakes. They had placed a strong broad plank across each channel leading over the long island at the head of the large lake, which served very well as a bridge without further expense at present. He regretted that the peacock, borrowed from Mr. Wheeler, of Durham Road, Tnglewood. had died lately. Mr. Wheeler had called ft thePark, and generously remarked Mint the Board was not to trouble further about it. A Taranaki gentleman had, however, promised to send some young bi-ds to the Park later on. With the mild season all vegitation continued to grow

vigorously. The chairman stated that the f. imell was growing vigorously, and was row about to seed. He knew that the two men had more than they could do to attend to the. other work, and thought that one or two men should be put on to attend to the weeds. The financial position ,was discussed, hut the chairman stated that : ii" collection in aid of the funds would t; ke place this month, and should nr.lise a considerable amount. Tt was decided to increase .John V\-k----ering's wages by as per 'oek. Mrs. Jones' request to have the '>oplar trees adjoining her orchard cnt c>"wn was held over pending a -lsit to the site by the Board. Mr. C. W. Govett was fipplntoo visitor for the present" month. Accounts amounting to lis lid wero passed for payment.
