LONDON DAIRY PRODUCE RE I'OHT. Messrs E. Griffiths and Co. are in re- ! ceipt of tlie following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills anil Sparrow, dated London. January 17, 1913: —

BUTTER. There lias ben a good consumptive demand for all descriptions of butter during the week, and arrivals have cleared up fairly well. There is still some heaviness in the market, but. on tin whole, prices are fairly well maintained, and it is hoped that values of all descriptions, particularly colonial, have now reached the lowest basis for some weeks. Big efforts are being made by the agents to prevent prices going any lower. .Arrivals of colonial this week consist of: Australian, s.s. Mongolia, 32,000 boxes; s.s. Persic, 0500 boxes; New Zealand, nil. The good reports from Australia and New Zealand concerning the weather seem to point to an improved supply, and now that the price is on a reasonable basis, there will be a very big requirement, as foreign descriptions are at their lowest, and are likely to remain small for the next three months. Danish is unchanged, with a steady demand. French continues in light supply, whilst imports of Siberian are just now of a negligible quantity.

CHEESE. There has been considerably more buying during the week, and agents are making big efforts to try and lift the market 2s above the present level. We think there is every possibility of success, as in our opinion New Zealand cheese would sell with as much facility at ()2s as it does at s!)s and fiOs: nt: the same time, it must be remembered that. the supplies of English cheese are considerably larger than at the same time last year, whilst the Canadian stock is also larger, and the <|iiantitv from Xew Zealand is showing a considerable increase. These are facts which have to be borne in mind when comparing present prices with those ruling at the same time last year.
