j , —». OUTSIDE MATCHES. Wellington, February 24. Although Saturday afternoon was chilly and somewhat dreary, a larger crowd than usual was present to see the continuation of the cup fixtures. Main interest centred in the North v. Victoria College match. North were up to then leading for the championship, but seemed to stand a chance of being defeated in this match. North had 70 against College 147 in the first innings. ■North's second venture produced only 139, compiled in a long time. Bray 38, Hiddlestone 33, Casey 18, Crombie 13, and Wilkinson 12, being the highest scorers. With an hour and fifty minutes to play, College needed only v 09 runs to win outright, or they had merely to play out time to win on the first innings. Southall, 0 for 17, and Casey, 4 for 14, proved too deadly, and in less than an hour College were all disposed of for 34, and North had won the match by that number of runs. 'Central 229 (Naughton 09, Jackson 54, Smith 36) defeated South 108 and 84 (Patrick 44) by an innings and 37 runs.

Petone 143 and 111 for five wickets (McKenzie 59. Dalgleish 23) defeated East B 130 and 119 (Smith 20, Stephenson 24, and Dooley 24) by five wickets. Christchurch, February 22.

The wickets were dreadfully slow, and indeed, until the weather cleared in the afternoon, it was doubtful if they would be fit to play on at all.

Svdcnhiim maintained their lead by setting into practically a winning position against East Christchurch. They made 332. to which Watson contributed f)7 by excellent cricket. Patrick 52. and Eraser (not out) 07. East Christchurch lost four wickets for nine runs. St. Albans have got a first innings lead of fifi over West Christchurch. Towards St. Alban's total of 107. Bishop contributed 55 and Hickmott 47. West Christchurch made 98. Linwood made 182 against Ricearton. Orchard contributed 83 by terrific hitting, his score including six sixes. Russell, a promoted junior, was the next best, with 40. "Riccarton made 115, to which E. A. Caygill, the top scorer, contributed 31. Bunedin, February 23. The weather was unpleasant for cricket matches yesterday, showers falling at fairly frequent intervals. Carishroolc A compiled 320 against Albion (Bruges ITG. TTuntly 91). Albion made 25 without losing a wicket.

Oarisbrook B disposed of Grange for S7 (Downes 32). Rnmsden took six wickets for 47 runs, and Alloo three for 35. Carisbrook made 125 for three wickets (Austin 55 not out. Tuckwell 41).
