A. statement made by Maltese boatmen resulted in the arrest of Bluejackets Payne and Woodcock, belonging to the cruiser Royal Arthur, on a charge of throwing Artilleryman ITourigan overboard, he being drowned. The bluejackets admit that there was a quarrel, but state that Itourigan. who was drunk, fell overboard.
FIRE ON A STEAMER. Sydney. February 24. A cable has been received from the Underwriters 1 Association, stating that the steamer Whakakarua. en route to Australia and New Zealand, has arrived at Capetown for survey. Her cargo has been considerably damaged bv fire.
SUMMER HILL FIRE. Sydney. January 24. The damage caused by the Summer Hill fire is estimated at '.€30.000. Four shop,, occupied bv Hodgson and Smith (universal providers) and Coleman (butcher) were destroyed. Several others were damaged.
