er's cablegram under date London, February 22. Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot:— Mutton. —The market is quiet, with a tendency iii favour of buyers. North Island 4%d. Canterbury not quoted. Lamb.—The market is slightly weaker, with less demand. The high prices are restricting business in the market. Buyers are cautious. Canterbury o%d, other than Canterbury fiyid.
Beef.—There is a better demand and there.is a moderate, supply. New Zealand hinds 3%d, fores 3%d.
Butter.—The market is (inner owing to the favourable change in the weather, which is cold. The Continent is buying unsalted. Choicest New Zealand ' nnRalted 110s. Australian 112s, Argentine 110s, Danish 121s, Siberian 110s. Cheese,—The market is firmer with a moderate demand. There have been complaints of the quality of New Zealand cheese this season. The average price for the week for finest New Zealand cheese was GOs (id. Canadian 645, English Cheddar 745.
Hemp.—The market is very quiet and there is nothing doing. The market is weaker, with a tendency downward. Spot New Zealnd good-fair' grade £33. fair £3l. fair current Manila £33 10s. forward shipment New Zealand good-fair £33 10s. fair grade £3l 10s, fair current Manila £34. The output from Manila for the week was 17.000 bales.
Hops.—The market is quiet, but moderate business is doing, the stock being reduced jrrndun'flY. The stock is moderate. English lobs. Califomian nOs. Wool.—The market remains firm. Crosshreds are higher all round.

On Friday. 14th hist., at my Waiwakaiho yards, I had a fair entry, and cleared most of the yarding at the following rates:—Mixed weaners £1 3s (id for small up to £1 14s (id for good grade. Jersey-Holstein weaners were in good demand, all selling at from £2 13s Gd to £2 17s fid, empty 15-months heifers £3 4s 6d to £3 Bs, bulls £3 to £5 10s. aged cows £1 Os to £1 12s, store cows £2 14s to £3 18s (id, forward and fat cows £4 lis Od to £5 lis, very choice springing Jersey heifers £li to £ll 10s, grade springers £5 5s to £6 ss, 18months steers £3 10s 6d. At Toko yards on Monday, the 17th, my pens were all well filled with all classes oE stock. Buyers were present in good numbers, a very satisfactory clearance being made as follows:—Mixed weaners £1 0s to £1 lis Gd, weancr Jersey heifers up to £2 3s, aged cows £1 15s to £2 10s, store cows £2 17s Cd to £3 17s Od. forward and fat cows £4 4s to £5 18s. hulls C2 14s to£B Gs, 20-month steers £3 Ills, 2'/..-year in-calf heifers ,£4 7s Gd, empty 15-months heifers £3 ss, aged ewes 5> 4d. f.m. ewes !)s 7d to 10s ; Gd, lambs fis Od, weancr pigs 8s to !).*, small store £1 3s to £1 Gs.
On the same day, for my .annual Waiwakailio sheep fair there was an entry of 4500 sheep. Competition was good for all lines except 2-toolh sheep and rams. A small line of well-grown woolly lambs (forward) obtained spirited competition, being sold at the hammer it 13s Id. Good woolly lambs realised 10s 4d to lis 4d. shorn 5s 5d to Bs, well-bred f.m. ewes 10s !)d, others 8s fid. to 10s, culla 5s 5d to 7s 4d. 4, 0 and f.m. Hampshire Down ewes (running with rams since January) Us. culls 8s 7d, 2-tooth ewes 13s to 14s Sd. and 14s lid for two wellgrown ltomney-Liiu-oln lines. 4-tooth ewes 15s 3d to 15s (Id, 0-tooth ewes 12s Od, fat ewes 14s fid. 2-tooth wethers 12s 9d to 14s. 4-tooth wethers 14s 4d to 15s.
, At Stratford on Tuesday for my fortnightly sale and sheep fair (combined) both cattle and sheep were yarded in excess of advertised numbers. The enquiry in the cattle yards was slack for most classes. Jersey-Holstcin weaners were enquired for and the demand for good wcaners was better. Prices realised were:— Weaners £1 las to £1 ISs, small £1 8s to £1 10s. choice line of Jersey weatiers £3 2s. 20-months heifers in calf £4 7s to £4 13s for well-grown lines, bulls £3 10s to £7 10s, aged cows £1 2s fid to £1 18s, store cows £2 12s fid to £3 15s. forward cows \C4 7s fid to
£4 15s, fat cows £5 5s to £0 ss. In the sheep yawls the enquiry was better, and a good proportion was cleared. A good line'of 1300 fi-looth wethers (torward) realised 15s od. Other prices were: Lambs 8s fid to 10s, culls 4s (id to 7s 3d, 2-tooth wethers 13s 3d, fat and forward ewes 13s 2d to Ms fid. f.f.m. ewes 0s sd, -I, (i and f.f.m. ewes 10s, f.m. ewes Gs lOd to 9s fid, culls 4s fid to us 3d. At the Stony River yards on Wednesday T had a fair entry and attendance. Competition was good, everything being cleared, mostly at the hammer, at the following prices:- - tirade weaner. heifers
