Mr. Prank Goldberg, local manager of the Zealand Oxypathor Co., ia staving at the White Hart Hotel, and expects to be in town for a few days. Mr. and Airs. U. J. Stanners and Miss Stanners, of Jiltham, who are shortly leaving for Kngland, were entertained, at a social in the Mission Hall on Wednesday evening.
Mr. E. C. Esse, manager of the Waverley branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has received notice of transfer to Die Tnglewood branch to succeed Mr. .). H. Kowe, who goes to Oamani. Mr. Christie, of Napier, succeeds Mr. Esse at Waverler.
The Tier. If. Martyn Rogers, of London, has been appointed to the Anglican Home Mission staff, and has been attached to the Taranaki district'with the He v. C. Houehen. Mr. Rogers, who arrived recently from Knglnad, has assumed his duties in Taranaki.
The Waitara Harbor Board at its last meeting passed a resolution of sympathy in connection with the Polar disaster. Captain Thompson, Harbormaster at Waitara spoke in highly appreciative terms of the late Captain Scott, under whom he had served as cadet.
Mr. Pndham, formerly headmaster of the Xew Plymouth High School, was. entertained at an "at home" yesterday afternoon by the old girls. Mr.'Pridham who is visiting y fiW Plymouth in company with Mrs. Pridham. leaves Auckland by the Moldavia next month for England.
Mr. F. W. Mansfield, the New Zealand Registrar-licneral, who went to Tasmania to study the> working of the' Hare-Clark electoral system, was present at the,final counting of the votes in Hobart, and obtained an excellent insight into the existing electoral system in that part of the Commonwealth.
Mrs. Prances Emily Pauling. Leiehhardt (Sydney), died last week at the Lowisham Hospital, blood poisoning having set in from the prick of a needle. Deceased was the wife of DetectiveThomas Pauling, who is also well-known as one of the finest Rugby forward players New Zealand ever sent to Australia. She leaves four children.
Three of the five Taranaki candidates who were successful in passing the Senior Civil Service examination, viz.. Misses Amy Harle, Alice Cocker, and Evelyn Monteath, were pupils of the New Plymouth High School. They were the only candidates sent up from that institution, and that all should pass reflects additional credit on the staff and candidates alike.
