Received 19, 9.35 p.m. London. February 19. The Daily Mail says that consols are weak, owing to the ill-success of the New Zealand loan. The underwriters have to realise securities to meet tbe calls. It adds that high-class borrowers are busy arranging fresh loans, some placing short-term bills at a high rate in order to tide over the present difficulty.
