PROPOSED- POLICE CONTROL. Auckland, February 17. The proper regulation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic lias for some considerable time past been engaging the attention of the Auckland City Council, and the need for a more vigorous enforcement of the city by-laws has led the Mayor to make a recommendation to the City Council finance committee that the Police Department should be asked to take over the control and regulation of street traffic, in Auckland. The Mayor has further instructed the town clerk to write to Wellington and obtain particulars of the agreement under which the police control the whole of the city traffic there.
