THE TONGA HURRICANE.
A DESTRUCTIVE STORM. DRAMATIC INCIDENT. By Cable —Press Association —Copyright. Received 18. 9.24 p.m. Suva, February 18. Later reports of the hurricane at Tonga indicate that it was of a local character and confined mainly to Nuknalout town, which was uninsured. The cocoa palms were ruined. . A dramatic incident occurred at 3 o'clock in the morning on February 10. At the height of the gale the American lumber schooner Borealis, anchored in the harbor, wa9 blown on to the wharf. The captain and crew jumped ashore, and the schooner drifted on the reef and burst into flames, exhibiting a fine panorama of destructions for many miles.
