SATURDAY HALF-HOLIDAY.

WANCANUI MOVING. By Telegraph—Press Association, Wanganui, Last Night. An enthusiastic meeting of many of Wanganui's leading business people to inaugurate a general Saturday half-holi-day in the combined district of the borough and Gonville Township was held to-night. It was unanimously decided to petition the Borough Council to take a poll of electors on the day of the general municipal- election, on April 30, in favor of a Saturday statutory half-holi-day. A strong executive was formed to take the petition in hand. The opinion is that the movement is gaining in favor, and that there is a good nrospeet of the poll carrying a majority for a Saturday holiday. Every burgess, male or female, of age, has the right to vote. -The business men present at the meeting were unanimous that the tramways had generalised trade more during the week, and reduced the Saturday night business, the drapers and grocers remarking that more business was done in the mornings by suburbanites being able to reach the town by trams.
