PTOMAINE POISOXIXG. By Telegraph Press Association. Auckland, Monday. After eating tinned sardines yesterday the family 'of Morris, of Avondale, became seriously ill. Medical help was summoned just in time. All were better this morning, except a little boy, who is still ill a weak condition. A CHILD DROWXED. Asblmrton. Monday. The two-year-old son of A. Anderson, caretaker of the county council's mill race, fell in the race near his parents' residence and was drowned.
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES. Greymonth, Last Night. At an inquest held to-day touching the death of John McGeady, whose body was found on the North Reach on January 17, evidence showed that the deceased bad been drinking on New Year's Day, oil which day he disappeared, George llraidwod said he had been told that deceased was assaulted by a man named Phillips on New Year's night. The deceased was wearing a valuable gold chain when last seen, which was missing when the body Mas recovered. During , the hearing, one witness was locked up for appearing in Court intoxicated. RUN DOWN BY A TP A IN. j Dunedin, Last. Night. Miss Ellen Tnrnbull, aged about 75 years, was fatally injured bv the lirst express from the North, bet ween Waianakarua and Herbert, to-day. The accident occurred just after the l.rain had passed a sharp tarn on the down grade. Apparently the deceased, who was somewhat deaf, did not hear (lie driver's warninir vhistbs, and before the train could be stopped she was struck down She was very seriously injured, ami died soon afterwards.
