FARM AND DAIRY.
NORTH TARANAKI. (From Our Own Correspondent). For the month of January the North Taranaki Dairy Company paid to suppliers the sum of £2752 18s (id for milk, as against £IB4O 14s 7d for the corresponding month of last year. This is an increase of £BOO 3s lid. The amount of butt'!!- made was 31 tons 3 cwt. as against 21 ton 14 cvvt., aii increase of (j ton !) ewt. The Waitara Dairy Company put up their record for milk supply (Juring the month of January when the sum of £2441 15s lid was paid out. This is an increase of £424 Ms Id on the amount paid out for the preceding January. The amount of butter made was 2G ton 15 cwt, being an increase of 3% tons on the previous January. The North 'lainnaki Dairy Company are still making over a ton of butter daily. Rape-feeding is keeping the milk supply up af; the various factories in North Taranaki this month. Maize crops are looking exceedingly well throughout tho rti&tvict, unci so soon! as the rape is finished those who have the maize to full back on will find their milk supn.v sustained for some time. The rains have freshened up the feed g f neially, and on the whole cows axe doing well. The work of erection of a precipitation station for the production of green casein at the North Taranaki Dairy Company's mnin factory is ■proceeding apace. .bulging by the experience of farmers supplying factories further south with their skim milk, it will not he long before most every factory will turn to casein making as an adjunct to butter. Crops in the district are reported to he exceedingly good this season.
