WANCAXCI AUTUMN" MEETING. (By "Moturoa.") With the conclusion of the Taranaki .lockey < lull's autumn meeting all ryes naturally turn to the next event on the racing calendar —the popular AAaiigauui Jockey ('lull's autumn slathering, which takes place cm Thursday, and Saturday, February 27 and March 1. This meeting has always attracted a big crowd of Taranaki horses, and. being within a few hours' rail of lis. many sportsmen from this province find it convenient to make the trip. The writer took a turn round the course and beautiful grounds a few (lavs a«o. and wis struck with the signs everywhere of steady improvement and •rood care of the club's property generally. The grandstand has been considerably enlarged, and is now an imposing structure. The club's caretaker, Mr. It. Webb, has the lawns wonderfully green, considering (he long spell ol dry wcathei. and the -dumbs surrounding the handstands are in line condition. Oiu Mime lakelets at the rear of tile Wanganni friends have good reason to be proud of their course and grounds, casi'lv the prettiest in the Dominion. Weigh! s for the minor event-; at WniiiNinni are published to-day. and complete Mr. George Morse's adjustments for the first day's events. The Wanga- • niii Cup and Flying Handicap weights, appeared a week ago. and have been already commented upon. 1 aranal%i_ iw\A] in tlio hack events. Lucerne, Patronale. firat.tnn. Teiikura. Clemency and Onforn ere in the hurdle races, and foil the Shaushraund. Katua. Patriotic. Manaw'akaha'. "Roval Simon. P.ed Lupin and St. Serf in the Stewards' Handicap, one mile Everything point, to a big continucnt going down to Vi anganui next week. J le liandicapper appears to have done his woTk in his usual painstaking fashion, and the club's cretary. Mr. W. TTall. should lie kept bn-v on Fridav evening next, when acceptance for all the fir*.. davV handieap events will close at. 0.30 p.m. Remember the date-Friday. Lebruarv 21.

three-quartern, but. pood judges express I he opinion that the son of Mania polo *\ould find a ilifheiilty in petting over a longer course. .Mr. I). Hughes lias enthe fielding in both hurdle race-, at Wauganm, and apparently does not think- that two miles will find a weakspot in his dashing hunrdler. Xgatiruanui cannot be said to be badly treated with I'O.S in (]|C Westmere Hurdles (two miles), or 11.11 in the Tayforth Hack Hurdles (one mile, and throe-quarters). A sportsman who had his glasses pined on Silver Rose in the Hack Scurry 011 Wednesday tolls me that the Wanganui mare would have troubled Yankee Doodle but for stumbling just before reach in? the home turn.
EleetrakofT has changed hands, and was shipped to Sydney last week. The ex-Taranaki horse should pick up a few pood races on the other side.
The, Wanganui Cup is now the principal topic. BobrikofT, La Reina, Bronze Cheddar and Tiresome are most discussed.
A Wellington writer remarks that Undecided. like Milan and Bronze, was ridden to victory by A. Olliver in the Egmont, Cup. The last two subsequently won the Wanganui Cup, and our contemporary wonders if Undecided will complete the chain. This scribe thinks not:, hut lie advances his reason with much diffidence. Undecided was not entered for the Wanpanni Cup!
Crown Pearl. Pirixvai, Ka.tua, flrattan, Pnlronale, To/i!cura. Lucerne and fneuru are engaged in the Flying at Wanganui, but t'<e best of the crowd will have to keep busy to have anything but a rear view of Autumnus. Culprit, Oladiole & Co. The last-named quartette will probably go to the post, and they are a slick lot. Tt should be a fine race.
Opeke is .said to be very fast for a few furlong-!, Imt slie isn't much smarter than a 'working bullock at the barrier, and that probably accounted for her failures at the local meeting. Lady MenschikofF ran two sterling races last week for the Wanganui Cup. Inoiirn displayed a lot of pace last season, and is improving at the startingpost now. Her display in the Grandstand Handicap on Thursday gave promise of a long-overdue victory in the near future.
Ts lied Lupin tired of the game? The little fellow showed no dash either at Takapmia or New Plymouth, and probably he is suffering from the chronic Taranaki complaint—too much racing. Splendid acceptances have been received for the Woodville district meeting which takes place oil Wednesday and Thursday, and winners look to be well concealed. It is surprising how racing is booming in the North Island at present. Every rare gathering the story reads: Rigger acceptances, bigger attendances and bigger totalisator returns! Who says tile kill-sports on the increase?
