K.Ml'lliK PIdTRKS. As usual Iho Empire Picture Palace was crowded to the doors on Saturday night. long before the recognised hour of oomii'eiioomcni. The nexv change of program nic screened is entitled to ""rank among the best yet shown in the town. Pride of place must be given (o a superb Knlnm drama 'founded on a loiicltiii" incident in the American Civil War, in the shape of "Under a Flag of Truce." it was .brimful of love, hatred, and adventure, and its main theme was the act of a southern girl's fiancee when tlje war broke out in taking up liis stand bv the side of the Northerners* standard. He acted according to his conscience, and liis fortunes and those of the Southern maiden were followed out in detail by the camera, to the accompaniment of some magnificent battle scenes. "'For Valor" was another war subject an Edison film—-find it was likewise treated in a manner at once entertaining and sensational. The talc had to do ii ( i the main with a glaring act of cowardice oil the battlefield on the part of one of the principals in the drama, and his subtle craft in endeavouring to conceal the fact from his lover and liis follows. TTow Nemesis eventuallv on him gave much stone to Urn cinematograph. Romance in all its glamour and fascination was well reprcsen'ed in a splendid' Eubin light dramatic subject. "The Reformation of Kid Hognn." The "kid" was a handsome and attractive boxer who, oil astro v bv his boon oompanios. went, _"to the dogs." but after a long spell in the ranks of adversity recovered his lost manhood throinrh the. tacit influence of'his oh] line.. One of the most sublirneh- beautiful photo plays which New Ph month audiences have had the pleasure of witnessing was released in ''She Never Knew." It was a Yitagraph light drama of the class so popular with the average theatre-goer, and was i sweetly pathetic. It was responsible for some delightful child-act-ing, and although it. dipped into the well of_ it had the virtue of not. being maudlin. The manufacture of glass hot ties was dealt with in a parintieularly interesting industrial film, wliile in a different vein, but unno i.lm less instructive, came a remarkable exposition of figure drill bv tliexbovs of Roodham School. Oil the scenic' side there was much to charm in views of Bruges, and interest was also sustained' in the latest, series of the Balkan War pictures. Patlie's Gazette found a host of admirers, as did also a ijuarteite of comics. ''A Hospital TTonx" was in particular excruciatingly mirth-provoking.
' GET RICII QUICK WALLING FORD."' There lias, it is stated, boon an unusually large number of enquiries at the box office in reference to the booking arrangements for the first and only representation here of the extremely humorous and brilliantly clever comodv. '"f!et Rich Quick Wallingford." which is to be staffed by the ,T. C. Williamson Co. at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night next. Never in local theatrical history has more interest been taken over the appearance of a company or the production of a play, and the artists will doubtless receive as hearty a welcome here as tliat which has been accorded them in other centres. An electrical wave of enthusiasm and laughter swept over the audience which welcomed "Get Rich Quick Wallingford" to Sydney, and tbe demonstration which took place at the close of the performance will long be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to secure a sent. Continued, recalls at tbe end of tbe evening led to a speech from Mr. Fred Niblo, the leading comedian, who thanked the audience for the enthusiastic manner in which they bad received the piece. At the termination of its Sydney run, which extended over thirteen weeks, "Ret Rich Quick Wallingford" was farcwelled bv a. record audience. Positively only one representation can be given of "Get Rich Quick Wallingford." Tbe plans will be opened at Collier's on Thursday morning next at 8 o'clock.
