LONDON DAIRY PRODUCE REPORT
Messrs E. tiriiliths and Co. are in receipt of the following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow, dated London, January -3, 11)13:
BUTTER. The week commenced with a somewhat large accumulation of butters, that arrived during the Christmas week, and with 28,000 per s.s. Moldavia Jrora Australia and 44,000 boxes per Ruahine from New Zealand, there was by far the largest quantity of colonial butter on the market than at any previous time, this season. Trade opened quiet, both buyers and sellers being cautious, and at the. commencement of the week fully 2s per cwt. less than precises previously reported were freely taken in order to do business. As the week progressed, the trade seemed to widen, and it closes quite firm, with stocks very well cleared. The weather continues all against the butter business, particularly butters which are brought'in cold storage, and conditions are more like spring than mid-winter. AVith a little .seasonable weather, we think it quite likely that quotations will advance in the near future. Danish came a kroner (Is 2d) lower, but as this description has been comparatively dear for some time past, it did not a fleet colonial. Danish butter is well maintaining its supply in comparison with last year, whilst French has been considerably heavier. Other Continental supplies' are running on about the same quantity as last year. Argentine is showing a big increase on last 'season's receipts, and the general quality is very good, although it does not make up to best Australian prices.
CHEESE. We are unable to report (iny improvement in the demand, but prices remaip steady. New Zealand descriptions are going out freely, but owing to the increased quantity, it lias been impossible to raise values.
