On Friday, 7th inst., J held my Whangamomona sheep fair and cattle sale. Owing to several vendors being' very busy with lamb shearing, the number of sheep yarded was not up to expectations, but cattle came forward much in excess of advertised numbers. Competition was slack for all classes except 20months steers and sheep. A good proportion of 'lie entry was cleared as follows: 2Mr.vear steers £4 12s to £5 2s, 2-vear steers £4 Is, 18 to 20-months steers £3 5s 6d to £3 18s, bulls £4, empty 20-months heifers £3 8s 6d to £3 14s. Holstein 20-months heifers £4 14s, store cows £4 12s, fat cows £5 Gs, 2 and 4-tooth ewes and wethers 14s 2d, 2-tooth ewes (small) 13s. f.m. ewes !)s to 0s 2d.

On Mondav, 10th inst., I had an entry of about. 6500 sheep for my Urcnui sheep fair. Buyers were present in big numbers from all parts of the district, and competition was keen right through the sale, nearly every pen being sold at the hammer. Two-tooth ewes yarded were small, and were the least enquired for. The demand for full-mouthed ewes, wethers and lambs was good, every line of these classes being cleared at the hammer. Some very line rams were offered and sold readily, the whole entry (over 100) being disposed of. The top price of 9s lOd for shorn lambs was obtained for a line of 400 well-grown lambs entered liv Mr. ,J. Whitehead, of Tikorangi. I quote:—2-,tooth ewes' 14s Id to 14s !)d. 2, 4 and (i-tooth ewes 13s to 15s 2d, f.m. ewes lis Id to 13s 4d, 6-tooth and f.m. ewes 0s lid to 10s 2d, best f.m. ewes Ss fid to !)s Bd. others 5s 2d to 7s Od. 2-toolh wethers 1 -Is to 14s sd. 4 and 6-tooth wethers 15s 11(1 to 16s 3d, 2 and 4-tooth wethers 14s lid to 14s lOd. small 2-tooth wethers 13s Id. good woolly lambs 10s to lis Id. shorn lambs up to 0s lOd for the best and from Cs 10d lo 7s Od for average quality. Romncy, Lincoln and Leicester rams sold from 2 to 4 guineas. I had only a small entry for my fortnightly cattle sale at Hrenui on the 11th inst.. and most of the yarding was sold as follows:—Mixed -weaners £1 10s Od to £1 12s. springing heifers £5 15s to £6 ss. dairy cows £5 to £5 12s Od, empty 15-months heifers £2 18s to £3 2s, yearling steers £2 5s to £2 8s 6d, 18-months heifers (r.w.b.) £3 12s Od, fat cows £5 4s 6d to £5 17s fid. store cows £4 lis to £4 14s, 2%-year iu-calf heifers £5 6s, bulls £5 ss. On the same day at Rahotu for my fortnightly sale and weaner fair I had a very big yarding and a good attendance of buyers from all parts of the district. Good competition was obtained for all lines, practically everything being sold as follows: —Weaner steers (best) from £l I2s to £2. small or Jerseys IDs to 28s. best colored weaner heifers £2 3s fid to £3 7s, good grade weaner heifers £1 12s Od to £1- 10s, small £1 4s, mixed weaners £1 10s to £1 16s. yearling steers £2 5s fid to £2 13s fid, 15nionths heifers £3 to £3 10s fid, bulls £3 12s to £fi 7s. store cows £3 to £3 10s fid, fat, and forward cows from £4 lis to £0 7s, lambs Cs fid, aged ewes ss.

Private sales.—Very "ood sales have I>een made privately during the week,

particularly a very nice line of 33 grade Jersey cows on account of Mr. W. H. Femvick, of Tarjki, to a, Palmerston North buyer, at £2O per head. Matthews, T>ennett and Co. report that there was only a moderate vardin» of cattle in their Tnglewood yards on Wednesday last. There was good competition. and nearly everything sold as follows:—Calves £1 9s fid to £1 lis. store eows £2 10s to £4 13s, bulls £3 to £O, empty heifers £3 to £3 4s, springers £5 7s fid. Paddock sales;—F.M. ewes 5s to 12s (3d. good ewe lambs 10s 3d. steers £3 10s to £3 15s, store wethers Ids 3d.

LOAN AND MERCANTILE REPORT.

The Xew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd.. and Reduced, Stratford branch, report as follows: On Wednesday, sth inst., we held our usual monthly cattle sale and our annual sheep fair in our Te Were yards. There was a fair yarding of 230 head of cattle and 1(100 sheep. We quote prices as follows: Mixed weancrs 30s to 3(!s, coloured weaner heifers up to 50s; 15 to 18 months empty heifers. 63s to 73s (id; 18-months heifers Tt.W.R. STs (id; IS to 20 months steers, (His to 72s fid; 1,8-months heifers, 08s (id; 3-year bullocks. 115s to 127s fid; bulls, small. 51s; cows. fiOs to 755. Tn the slieep pens we disposed of most of the sheep vanlcd at the "hammer. Prices were as follows: —Lambs, poor, 5s to 7s 8d; woolly lambs, ]os to 10s 3d; f.f.m. On Tuesday, llt.h inst:., we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when there was a fair yarding of 450 head of mixed cattle, and prices were slightly easier on the whole than at the last sale. We quote prices as under: Weaner steers, poor. 22s to 3fis for good stuff; mixed weaners, poor 21s fid to 345; coloured weaner heifers. 37s fid up to 40s for real good quality heifers; IS to 20months steers, fifis to 735: 18-months empty heifers, fi7s fid to 72s fid; 18months heifers, U.W.8.. - 70s to 77s fid; 2'/ 3 -year steers. 87s (id to Ofis fid; 3V<yenr steers, 110s to 1255; bulls, small. 57s fid to 180s for good sized beasts; store eows. 57s to 87s; forward and fat cows, !)5s to 1245.

There was a large attendance of buyers and competition was very keen for all lines.
