The I'ev. A. IK Oolvile journeys to Auckland on Monday to take part in the special Lenten mission, which includes mid-day addresses in the Chamber of Commerce, to business men. He will be away for about ten days. Mr. J. Pa tori will leave this morning for Christchurch. During his three weeks' holiday he will represent the Tirana ki Board at a conference of the. New Zealand' Fire Boards. He will be relieved at Xew Plymouth by Mr. K. A. Craig, from the Auckland office. Dr. and Mrs. Bennett arrived from Blenheim last Saturday, the former leaving last night for Auckland, where he intends catching (he Zealaiidia for the Old Country. Dr. Bennett will be away about seven months. Mrs. Bennett is at present slaying with her mother. Mrs. Paul, but leaves early next weel; for Blenheim.
Tlie officer who is taking the battleship New Zealand to the Pacific is not a stranger in tliesc waters, for he was for some time iii one of the vessels on the Australian station. Captain HitJsev is not new to this kind of work. He commanded" Hie Oood Hope when that vessel took Mr. Chamberlain to South Africa, and during the war in South Africa he was in charge of the 4.7 gun in the Princess A'ictoria battery of the CoVe Hill redoubt during the seige of Ladvsniitli. Towards the end of the war he was exectuive officer to Admiral Sir Hedworth Meux (Lamhton)., and he was generally in cliarge, for a time, of all the naval guns. His promotion to commander in 1001 was in recognition of his services in South Africa, and he became captain in 1005. He is one of the youngest oflicers of his rank. The chief executive officer of the New Zealand is Conjmander Henry E. Grace, a son of the famous cricketer.
