HOW TO EISE. Tlio way tor a young mati to vise is to improve himself- every way lie can, never suspecting that anybody wishes to hinder him. THE UNSPEAKABLE TURK. The "unspeakable Turk" appears to be maintaining to the last, the unenviable reputation for I/iiiuman savagery which has made Turkey the despair of civilised Europe. The latest fdes of the London newspapers show that the Turkish retreat upon Constantinople "was marked by frequent outrages. When the Turks were retreating from Uskub all Christian villages in the line of march were burned, while men and women were tortured and mutilated. The villages on the shore of Marmora, notably Ganos, Peristasis, Yeljik and Yenikeni, felt the heavy hand of the retreating Turks, but the sad ease of the villagers reached the ears of the Orthodox Patriarch, who was able to secure Russian intervention. The gunboat Donitz was sent to Peristasis and fifty Christian families were rescued. Although occasional cruelties have been committed by the Bulgarian troops, these have been confined to the irregulars. Of the regular Bulgarian Army the Turkish refugees have no complaint to make. They state that.the Bulgarians paid their way. and were not to bp feared half as much as (lie Turks, their own countryme!).
