GAGGED AND BOUND.
A WfTAXfIARET OUTRAGE. Per Press Association. ■ Whangarei, Last, Night. Tlie jiolico were informed last, night that a woman named Marvin had been found hound and gagged in her own home. The woman states that a I right o'clock a young man came to the door with a note for her husband, purporting to come from the superintendent of the Fire Brigade, tier husband being n member of the team left to-day for Wanga-
nui, to take pari in the demonstration. She thought it was genuine. The note asked that her husband should go and see the superintendent. Five minutes after her husband left, the woman went to her bedroom, and there was seized by awo young men. A handkerchief was thrust into her mouth, and money demanded, or they would choke the life out of her. A heavy picture cord was placed round her throat and pulled till she was nearly strangled. She told her assailants that the money was in the chest of drawers. Eleven pounds in note? and Ids in silver is missing. Three months previously the same woman states that she had an encounter with the same men. when £3 and jewellery was stolen. When her husband came home half an hour later he found his wife unconscious on the door. The ] police are reticent, making the public < assume that they art; treating the mat- i ter as a hoax. \ • c
