DISTRICT NEWS.
nURFOBD ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent). We are all in want of jnore rain and less wind again, as at this time of the year rain once a week would keep the milk from dropping, as it is likely to do with so much line weather. The tests at the local factory are ranging from 8.7 to 4.5. Our school opened again for the ensuing year on February 4, when Miss Tobin, of "Warea, commenced her new duties. The children all turned up with smiling faces, more than pleased to \ lind that their new teacher was a lady. ; The children are now looking forward to their annual picnic, which is to be held about the end of the month. Mr. Smith had the misfortune last week to find on going to catch his horse for the factory that the animal had a nasty gash across its chest, caused by a barb wire. The harvest days are about over for | the season now. and I believe some of | our neighbors on the top end of the road are thinking of threshing some of thencrops. So much for the new bridge. Before it was impossible for au engine to cross over.
Tt is rumored that Mr. C. Honrickson has sold his farm on Sealy road to Mr. 8. Viekers, of Omata. .and has purchased Mr. Viekers' homestead. Land sales are fairly frequent about here. A wedding took place at Mr. A. Smith's residence on January 15. the contracting parties being Miss E. Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Smith, and Mr. Leonard O'Connor, eldest son of Mr. O'Connor, of Waikanae. The bride, who was given l away by her father, wore a pretty silk dress) with the usual veil «nd orange blossoms, and carried p, bouquet. She was attended by her two younger sisters. Misses Vera and Helen Smith, who wore blue silk, muslin dresses and lace caps. Mr. IT. O'Connor acted as best man. The bride's travelling dress was a navy blue tailored costume, with black hat. Amidst showers of vice, the happy couple left for New Plymouth, en route for Wellington, their future home.
