LOST ON MOUNT EGMONT.

AN UNPLEASANT ENTERIECE. Elthain, Yesterday. Considerable uneasiness is felt in Eltliani concerning Mr. 11. J. Barnard, secretary of tiie Jiltliam Dairy Company, who lias been lost 011 Mt. Kgniont since yesterday afternoon. Strong search parties have been sent out. According to the El (.ha m Argus, on arriving on the scene the' searchers found that, the liush 011 the Kapuni side of the track had been thoroughly searched with 110 result and they then proceeded to "do" the other side, one party stareing at either end. Those starting from the bottom found Mr. Barnard, after tramping some two miles. "You are looking for me, I suppose?" he remarked with a smile, and in the course of further conversation it transpired that he had left the track in search of some ferns and had become hushed. ITe found a creek, and followed it for some distance. thinking it was the Kapuni. Later doubts arose, and as it was becoming rather dark he endeavoured to light a fire. The dew was falling, however, and ho failed ill this, and therefore was; troubled with the cold, and onlv secured a verv broken night's rest. Tie ira-. however, lint little the worse for his alarming and unpleasant experience.
