TO IMPROVE THE FORESHORE.

, COMMENDABLE PROPOSALS. I _ W ol 'ks Committee recommends the Borough Council to approve of the application made in a letter forwarded to the Council by Mr. J. F. Eustace, chairman of the Foreshore-Improvement Committee. pointing out that the residents of the western portion of the borough were desirous of assisting in the extension of the carriage drive along the foreshore. from Weymouth street to Moturoa, and with a view to making that portion of the beach a pleasure resort, were prepared to undertake to keep it clean and plant wherever it was desir- ■ able and to form belts of shelter trees. It was also proposed to form paths leading to the beach, erect coppers for sup- ■ plying hot water, swings, etc., and generally to provide amusement for the pub- ■ 'ie. A large and strong committee had been appointed to carry out the improvements, and he understood that the portion of the railway reserve from Cutfield road to Moturoa was at present administered by the Seaside Improvement Committee, who would be prepared to disband and allow the new committee to take over their portion, and arrangements were now being made to bring this about. Meantime, however, the new committee asked the Council to allow I them to administer the Kawaroa Park . (exclusive of the Baths) and also that small triangular piece of land at the corner of Dawson street owned by the Council, the committee to be subject to the Reserves Committee of the Borough Council, but to have power to keep the reserve clean and to effect such improvements as they think desirable without committing the Council to any cxpendi3. ture.
