ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Per Press Association. Napier, Saturday. Thomas Ellis, a patient in the hospital, attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat with a razor. When found by a nurse Ellis was in a weak state through loss of blood, but his injuries are not likely to prove fatal. FOUND DROWNED. Wanganui, Saturday. The fully-dressed body of'an old man named Brookes, who has been missing since Tuesday, was found floating in the river this morning. An inquest is prdceeding. A SUDDEN DEATH. Tnvercargi|l, Last Night. Alfred William Browett. thirty-eight years old, was found dead in the Windsor Boarding-house. Esk street., early on Saturday. One of the boarders tried to enter lirowett's room for the purpose of chatting with him. when he discovered that the door was partly blocked by something lying on the Door. He summoned the prioprietor, and they entered the room. Browett had fallen on the flood between the dor and the bed, and was quite dead. Deceased was a South ; African veteran, and held a *war medal and a military medal. He was a brother • of Mr. Browett. inspector of factories in Dunedin. DEATH FROM HEART DISEASE. 1 Christchurch. Last Night. ! George Lincoln Smith, 77 years of age. i died suddenly yesterday afternoon. At the inquest a verdict of death from heart, failure was recorded.
