There is intense excitement in political circles as to whether the New South Wales Ministers and Labor members will be willing to submit to examination by the committee appointed by the Labor League to enquire into the attitude of State and Federal members of Parliament regarding Mr. Nielsen's resignation, the Shearers' Accommodation Bill, and the Blayney by-election. The. popular feeling at the conference was that members of the caucus were bound to obey instructions. . The conference, i neident is being dubbed a ''heresy hunt." THE SIN HOURS DAY. Received 10, 12/25 a.m. Sydney, February !). On the motion of Mr. Christopher Watson, the Labor Conference, after a lively debate, by 52 to 14, rescinded the six-hour day motion. Mr. Watson and ■others argued that a six-hour day might lose the party seats at the coming elections; also that the platform advocated all that was necessary in that direction, as contained in the section in favor of reducing the hours to 44 weekly, on account of the increased productivity of labor, with eight hours from bank to hank for coal mines, and six hours for all other underground workers. A MINERS' STRIKE. London, February 8. The Broxburn miners claimed that the weighing machines wei? out of order, and asked for an allowance for shortage. This was refused, and work was stopped in the pit. GARMEXT WORKERS' STRIKE. New York, February 7. The garment workers threw bombs and wrecked several buildings. Three persons were injured. The police arc incapable of dealing with the rioters. Assaults on proprietors are frequent. Terms of peace have been proposed, and the workers have arranged to vote. A CHEMIST'S STRIKE. Received 0, 5.5 p.ui. Buenos Ayres. February S. The chemists have'closed throughout the Argentine, as a protest against the onerous tax on pharmaceutical preparations and perfumes. Hairdressers and other tradesmen are supporting them.
