Mr. Bonar Law. at a Unionist dinner, said that the moment the Unionists were entrusted with power tliey would lie able, without food duties, to give tlx* Dominions precisely what they a>ked in Imperial conferences, namely preference on existing duties. If it was impossible to have a preferential s\<tem. which would help in consolidating the Empire, without food duties, then they must endeavor to carry the latter, but only after submitting it to the people and convincing them that it would be to the advantage of both the Empire and the United Kingdom.
