This was j carried. The following remit- w-re <li-ci:--.e.! and were adopted by the conference. 1o b ■ f'.rvarded to the New Zealand Coun- ; ci!:—"Thai championships he allot-ed in . rotation by the Council, and in the event of a centre being unable to carry out the same the championships will go to ihe next centre following."' Mr. Rich, in the absence of the (Mago ' delegates, advanced the claims of Dune- , din for the next championships. Tie ■ I moved the following amendment : -"'That it be a recommendation to the Council tba' (lie championships be allolied to affiliated centres in rotation, alwavs re- '' serving the right to allot to Ihe Otago c. litre the championships when that ,' centre has a bath to conduct the meet- \ • ing." Mr. Turnbull withdrew his motion in favor of the amendment, which was carried unanimously. Mr. G. Rich moved—"That it be a re- , commendation to the New Zealand Swim- ' ming Association, when calling for ten r ders for medals, to do so in accordance with the rules." !' The delegates expressed the opinio) ' that if the New Zealand Council offere< a medal and its value at £2s 2s (h< medal should be worth that amount. : '' The question of the eligibility o Z I Northern League footballers compel in. las amateur swimmers was discu---"d a! ' i<on-iderable b-ngih. The feeling of (In " [delegates generally was that footballer "iy.lio played for m-iuey consideration'"should be debarred from taking pari ii '" amateur swimming. '" I A di-cussioli arose out of the followin: motion., moved by Mr. Aiki;is : --"The ; ' the Wellington centre enters its protes
against Northern Union footballers playing under the .game as at present constituted in New Zealand, competing as amateur swimmers. An ainiudmeiit mo- 1 by Mr. ITannny was ruled out of 01 '"i\ as being in direct opyosilioii to th .-lotion. The motion of Mr. Atkins' was declared b-t by six to five. Mr. Rich stated th:it the last; conference deeidi'd to recommend that the championships now being held in Wanganui be allotted to Hawke's Bay, but this remit, was. like all otlieis passed at the last ((inference, not forwarded to the Council. lie therefore moved that the iie:ct (kampiouship meeting be granted to Hawke's Bay. The Nelson delegates pointed out that the Council had appointed the. next championships to the Nelson centre.' The motion wis negatived. I The matter of the secretary's honorarium wa» raised by Mr. Atkins, who strongly protested against the Council's pining an honorarium of £ls to the secretary, lie would move in this direction as a protest against, the manner in which the Council's work was carried on. A discussion arose on, this motion as to whether the secretary was a professional in being paid £ls, and the chairman gave it as his opinion that "honorarium" did not make a professional of a secretary, but that if he were paid a "salary" lie would become a profesisonal. Tiie motion was carried. Mr. Rich thought the time was ripe for a Nee- Zealand team of fourteen to visit Australia. They might not win much, but the gain in experience would he considerable. He would move that it be a suggestion to the Council to invite suggestions from the various centres relntive'to the advisability of sending a team to Australia. The motion was carried unanimously. Tt was resolved that the ladies' standard for lOflvds be 80 seconds. The appointment of polo referees was discussed, and a resolution was passed to ihe effect that it bo a recommendation to the Council that an association of polo referees be formed from which the Council could make appointments of vc?«ivcs for championship matches.
