TTc states he found the Remittent with all sails set and undamaged in mid-Atlantic, but there was no trace of a single soul aboard, although the vessel bad evidently been deserted only a few hours previously. Captain Claridge took the Remittent in tow. but lost her during a terrific . gale. It is not known whether she foun- ■ dered. Captain Claridge's statement was ' di-believed at first, but wa - afterwards ■ substantiated.
