A Sydney cablegram state? that Captain liutton. aide-de-camp to Lord Liverpool, has arrived.
A London cable message says that Captain Duigau. a New Zealander, has qualified for the nominated staff of the college at Quetta.
The (loath occurred at Gisborne on Wednesday of one of Xew Zealand's foremost pioneers, in the -person of Mr. J. T. Evans, who lias for many years been associated in business matters with many firms all over the "Dominion, Many old residents on the coast will regret to learn of the death of Mr. John Hair, which took place at Normanhy on Monday. Mr. Hair was one of the oldest settlers on the coast, and for many years was farming at Wavcrley. but later on lie came north, and lias resided in this part of the .district for a considerable time.—Hawera Star.
