On .Monday night last a meeting of the Whangamomona Tennis Club was held. A permanent committee was elected as follows: —President, Mr. Strombom; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Reader; general committee, Messrs Hatton, White, Mills. Seannel, Fawner, Aylward. Arrangements were made to hold the opening ceremony at the new court 011 Thursday afternoon next. On Thursday night last, a farewell smoke concert was tendered to Mr. Cottier, prior to his departure. The chair was occupied by Mr. Hatton, and musical items were rendered by the following:— Mr. F. Lundon. song; Mr. C. Reader, song; Mr. 1). Wildermoth, song; Mr. R. Cottier, violin solo; Mr. T. iiradley, recitation; Mr. R. Fawkner, song; Mi. T. Aylward, recitation; Mr. C. Stapleton, song; Mr. F. Court, song; Mr. W. Harris, recitation. After supper, which was daintily catered for by Mr. Nightingale, Mr. T. Bradley, on behalf of the people of the district, presented Mr. Cottier with ;i purse of sovereigns, and a handsome pendant for Mrs. Cottier. During the many toasts reference was made again and again to the high esteem in which the guest of the evening was held throughout the district, and the heartiest wishes were expressed for his success in his new sphere. On Friday night there was a large attendance at the meeting of the medical association, all the members being present. It was decided that applications for the position of doctor for the Association be called at once, the applications to close at the end of February. On the same night a public meeting was held in the school to arrange for the school picnic on February 7, Mr. R. Fawkner presided, and adequate arrangements were made for giving the children a record treat. A large quantity of toys has been purchased, and strong committees have been formed for the purpose of mnking the picnic as enjoyable as possible. On the same evening a dance is to be held in the hall to finish up the day. A euchre party and dance was held in the Town Hall on Friday night last, the prizes for the euchre being won by Mrs. Dean and Mr. H. Jakes.
