Seymour (llawke's P.ay) 2, Pfitnkuch (Blenheim) 11. Muller '(Wnnganui) also started, Seymour got, the best of I lie start, but was soon overhauled by O'llare, who won by a touch. Pfankueh six feet away. Time. 07 2-ssee. Second heat: M. Champion (Auckland) I, C. Atkinson (Opawa) 2. H. Stevenson {llawke's Hay) IS. Davy (South Canterbury) also started. Won easily, with something in hand, in 01 l-osec, two seconds inside the New Zealand record. Third heat: C. Wilson (Waitemata) 1. K. Healey (Wellington) 'I. The onlv starters. Wilson won as hj" liked. Time. 04 2-ssee. Fourth heat: C. Bryce (Wellington) 1, V. Bridges (Tlawkc's Bay) 2. Armstrong (Wanga|mii) also swam. Armstrong got off badly, and could not make up his leeway. A good finish eventuated between Bryce and Bridges, the former getting the verdict by a touch. Time. 05 1-oscc. In the evening there was an attendance of 20(10. and some magnificent raci ing was seen. Results:

Won by a touch, with Ihe same distance between Atkinson and Welson.

Starters: Champion (Auckland). Pfankueh (Blenheim), Wei son (Auckland), Rich (Opawa), A. Seymour (Blenheim). R. Healy (Wellington). Champion, Welson and Seymour went to the front, the last-named establishing a lead of a few miles. At the quarter-mile Pfankuch and Rich were two lengths and a length (25yds.) respectively behind. After going 800 yards Champion led by five yards, but half a dozen lengths' later i Welson and Seymour sprinted and overhauled him. the three raced together for the next 100 yards. Rich was about 75 yards behind. Pfankuch having withdrawn, and at the 1000 yds. mark Seymour withdrew. Champion commenced to forge ahead, and was soon 20 yards in front of Welson, who led Rich by 3(1 yards. With 220 yards to go Champion led by 35 yards, and increased the lead over Welson all the wav, eventually defeating him by 50 yards. Rich was 20 yards away.
