■» A FATAL FALL. Per Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The inquest on the body of Joliu Muirhead, who was killed on Friday, was concluded today. Dr. Gordon Mac Donald gave evidence that the primary cause of the accident was asphyxia, caused by a small stone, lodging in deceased's windpipe, but the primary cause of death was loss of blood, caused by injuries to the lungs through a cart passing over deceased. A verdict to this cll'ect was returned. A COXSTAIILE ASS.-H'I.TED. I'aliiierston Xorth, Monday. Constable Doyle, of Shannon, was badly knocked about on Saturday night, and is now in the hospital. It is stated that he went to put a man out- of the stables of the Albion Hotel, when the man turned on him and tierecly assaulted him. The constable bad a leg fractured and one eve badly injured. His assailant bolted, and ha- Hot yet been arrested. A SUTiFACEMAX KILLED. Dunedin. Monday Xeil .folm.Kon succumbed in the hospital to injuries sustained on Saturday through being knocked down by an engine at the foot of Hanover street. He was a surfaceman, and did not hear the engine, which was -bunting, owing to the lieavv wind.

A farm laborer, -ixty years old. named Richard Marshall, employed by John Farrell of Hinds, died suddenly (bis afjernoon. During the forenoon he was driving a reaping machine and in the afternoon ploughing, and was on his way home after leaving work when suddenly tie became ill and expired within a few minutes. Tie had not previously complained of being unwell.
