DISTRICT NEWS.
OKAU. (From Our Own Correspondent). The weather here has during the past feu days been very cold. The supply to our dairy factory is keeping up well, whilst the grade notes to hand have been well maintained. We had the water-borers here, and have struck water at about 210 feet. A deep-well pump and engine are expected here any day now, and when the same are fixed and in working order our factory will be one of the most up-to-date of its kind (viz., home separation) in the Dominion.
I notice that Mr. Newton King's men have finished the sheep yards at Okau Junction. They are a credit to the firm. We wisli them them all success in their first sale.
Mr. Bellshaw, contractor for the burnt papa, has just burnt his first kiln of p&pa, which has turned out as anticipated. It is a blessing we have some form of material which can be turned into road metal, as the district is in want of better roads.
Your valuable paper we receive here new every afternoon, and is, I am sure, greatly appreciated by many awav from the outer world. To get local, colonial and European news a few hours after the happenings in an out-of-the-way place like this is something that never surely could have been anticipated by the older settlers.
