DISTRICT NEWS.

UIiUTI. (Im'o On)' Own Correspondent], The new your has broimlit us a. daily r ul service between New Plymouth and '.wakiiio. which is a boon to the bnekblockers in these parts. Mr. AY. Jury lias the congratulations of all the settlers I'or his progressive movement., and all wish him every success. The mud roads—or mud tracks, shall I call them?—arc in von' good order just at present. It is a pity our summer months don't last a little longer: we. hardly have time to realise that the travelling is safe before the winter and the horror of mud and holes are under us again. The Mold deviation is just about completed, which gives us a few miles of good going. After what the settlers in these parts have had to put up with they will appreciate the 12ft track, even if it i-; only three or four miles. The tunnel, which saves a lot of'heavy climbing, and a long round-about journey, is a splendid piece of work, and Messrs Davis and Co. deserve every credit for their able workmanship. The weather just at present is not all that could be desired for harvesting, but T think most of the crops, winch are not of a. very large area, will he stacked in fairly satisfactory condition. The turi nip crops "round here arc rather backward, but the rain on Tuesday night, which was very badly wanted, as far as turnips were concerned, should bring them along and assure good crops.

I think most of. the bush settlers have got their burns over, as grass seed is' being packed over the country in all directions. This means a busy time for a week or two.
