La Reina made a great effort to land the big race on Wednesday, but 9st. just settled her in the last few strides, and Jolie Fille was able to land the stake by a bare head.

The victories of Glad Tidings, Overtime, Shebeen and Lady Alicia were expected, and stay-at-home punters gave the layers a warm time of it. Autumnus is galloping stronglv again and will be on hand to dispute the Middle Park Plato at Riccarton to-morrow. Egmont acccptaces close to-nitrht at 0 o clock. The Hawera telegraph office closes at 8 p.m.
