SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.
"MARKING TIME." Per Press Association. Cliristchureh, Last Night. "Still marking time" describes the present position in Canterbury with re« spect to the slaughtermen's strike. There are as yet no indications of the' Slaughtermen's Union giving way, and a member of th/ ; Union informed a reporter that members were prepared t» fight to the bitter end. It was possible that some way out of the existing deadlock will be decided upon by a conference to be held in Wellington to-morrow, bufi no information beyond the fact that the two local freezing companies will be represented at the conference was obtain-* able as to the proposals to be discussed by the conference. RETICENCE- IN .WELLINGTON. Wellington, Last Night. Both sides in the slaughtering dispute are reticent, and no new developments were announced to-day. Much interest centres in the conference of the freezing companies to be held to-morrow, but nothing can he gleaned as to what the outcome is likely to be.
