(From Our Own Correspondent). The firebell lias had a good deal of use yesterday and to-day, as on Monday it was ninjj at. the request of the borough councillors and in the presence of Messrs Booth and McDonald's representative (they having supplied it), to test its powers. At first it was generally conceded that the old smaller bell, which is an exceptionally fine en sting, gave the more penetrating sound of the two, but to-day after the arrangements for hanging had been somewhat modified, the largo bell is holding its own. Anyway, the less we hear it the better it will be liked. Active steps will, I hear be taken very scon to get the glee parties in connection with the Church of England into work again, as it is intended to hold several functions this, winter, and these, musical entertainments are always well appreciated. The last week of the holidays has now arrived, and if the children are sorry I am certain the parents will not be.
