THE GOVERNORS.

A VISIT TO DUNEDIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin. Last Night. His Excellency the Governor. Lord Liverpool, accompanied by the Countess 'of Liverpool, paid his first official visit to Dunedin to-day, and was warmly welcomed by the Mayor and councillors and a large crowd of citizens outside the Town Hall. An address of welcome was presented to His Excellency by the Mayor, who said that it was at all times a pleasure to welcome the Governor to the Dominion, as he occupied the position of a personal link with the Motherland. In Lord Liverpool's case there was another reason why the people should extend a warm welcome to him, namely, that while serving in the Eoyal Navy His Excellency's father hail assisted in restoring peace and good order when trouble reigned in the North Island. On rising to reply, His Excellency received an ovation. He thanked the people for their very cordial welcome, and sincerely trusted that not only during his term of office, but long after he had passed from these shores, the same feeling of attachment to the Motherland that now existed would remain in the hearts of the people. Tt wa"s one of the distinguishing features of these Islands, and he hoped it would continue to hold a foremost place in the hearts of the people of New Zealand. To-morrow their Excellencies will be i driven round the city, and on Friday i they will leave for Wellington.
