Lord Hardinge, in opening the Legislative Council, said he was profoundly grateful for the sympathy shown in his (sufferings. He regretted the loss of humble lives. In most eases such crimes were the outcome of organised conspiracies, which were only dispelled by the public's determination to treat the perpetrators and inciters as enemies of society. Among the incentives should be included intemperate political language tending to influence an ill-halaneed mind t" hideous crimes. lie was confident that the people of India would stamp them out.
A CLUE TO THE OUTRAGE. Received .10. 1 a.m. Delhi, January 29. It is reported in Bombay that the police have discovered a cine to the Hardinge outrage. Suspicion rests on a gang of Cralims. The outrage is believed to be an offshoot of the Masik conspiracy. Several native rumors state that private individuals offered Lord Hardinge 70.000 rupees for charity to mark the Viceroy's opening of the Legislative Council. Another operation on Lord Hardinge will be necessary to remove some foreign substance which is retarding his healing.
