LOST ON THE MOUNTAIN.

FITZROY YOUNG LADY MISSING. Yesterday morning Miss Oxenham, of ifitaroy, accompanied by a young man (whose name we could not obtain last night) left the Mountain House to climb the mountain. A dense mist came on, and the track was lost. The young man asked his companion to stop where she was while he picked up the track again. On returning h e cou ld find no trace of Miss Oxenham, though he searched all around. Another account is to the effect that Miss Oxenham formed one of a lar<*e party; that becoming tired she stopped on the track whilst the others went on. On the return of the latter, the young lady had disappeared. It was thought Bhe had returned to the House by herself and it was only when the party arrived that they k„ ew of llfer disappear, ancp. ' L Mr. Murphy, the caretaker, was notified a„d immediately he donned his mountaineering outfit, took a change of dry clothes for the young lady, and set out on a search, which others also participated in. The search was vigorously conducted up till dark. Mr. Murphy, indeed, did not return till .ten o'clock last evening, finding, however, no trace of the young lady. The weather yesterday afternoon was very bad, the wind being strong and accompanied hy heavy rain. The caretaker and others continued the search early this morning, when the moon rose.

~ Later. At three o'clock this morning the Search was in progress. The caretaker of the Stratford House is assisting in the search.
