INDIANS VALUED LIKE SLAVER. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, January 22. Mr. Read, director of the Putumayo Rubber Company, giving evidence, admitted the payment of £11,400 in the company's accounts was for repressing Indians, also items for ransoming persons and keeping Indians prisoners. The chairman of the committee said the accounts showed the Indians were valued like slaves at £lO apiece. Witness declared he had not examined the accounts and could not state what' had become of the books, which had disappeared.
