UNIVERSITY SENATE.
SITTING IN AUCKLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Tuesday. The University Senate resolved to ask the Government to amend the Mining and Coal Mines Act to enable graduates in mining and engineering to obtain managers' certificates on production of certificate from authorised managers that they have been employed in underground workings for three years. The Senate rejected a motion by Professor Hunter that it he an instruction t> any committee that has to nominate the New Zealand examiners to first report for the approval of the Senate the principle it proposes to follow in the selection of examiners.
There was a long discussion on the motion that there shall bo one pass degree in arts and science, as recommended by the professional conference. The motion was defeated by 14 votes to S, those in favor being Professors Brown (21. Chilton. Night. Hunter, lnems, Mr. Bogben and the Rev. Mr. Evans.
