THE OPUNAKE BEACH.

A PROGRESSIVE- COMMITTEE. . Opunake possesses one of .the prettiest and safest stretches of beach jn Taranaki. The hay of Opunake lies snugly beneath sheltering cliffs not a stone's throw from the town. It has a stretch ; of level hard sand which very gradually ; recedes to the water, so that it is pos-; sible to wade out for some considerable j distance before one of the small fry even j gets out of depth. Year by year the; attractions of the sea are being better! appreciated by country people, and this I year quite a number of camping parties are enjoying a refreshing change on thesea shore. This increasing popularity, is largely due to the hard work during, the past few seasons of the ..Opunake' Seaside Improvement Committee, who have added to the natural advantages! wherever possible. Among these. inay be: mentioned bathing sheds, with showerSj installed, for ladies and gentlemen respectively, n picturesque tea kitisk, and a! hillside reservoir. The committee are,' however, not satisfied, yet. They are organising their annual fete, •which tuates on Wednesday next, on a larger scale than ever. They expect a large attendance of country people from miles around, and they should, not. be disappointed.
