FIRES.
A BLAZE IX WELLINGTON. '> By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. At about 11 p.m. on Saturday a fire occurred in a two-storeyed wooden building in Manners street. The fire was aided by a strong wind, but wa,s got down by the Fire Brigade after considerable damage had been done by smoke and water. Those affected are: W. Stanley (jeweller), Neville (agent),. Hanna (signwriter), and Mrs. Ingerton (music teacher). The insurances • are »ot available. The building was owned by Mr. Dalziell and Dr. Grace. NEWSPAPER OFFICE DESTROYED. Timaru, Last Night. The wooden, building of the Temqka News printing establishment was bujTjed down this morning and the plant and machinery practically destroyed. l I4n adjoining shed containing' chaff and superphosphates was also destroyed,., A stiff breeze was blowing, and the brigade had hard work to save the timber yard across the narrow street. The staff had just completed printing the paper when smoke was seen coming through— the wall. The origin of the Are is a mystery, The building was insured for £l5O and the plant for £350 in the Ocean Office.
