THE FIREMEN'S STRIKE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The secretary of the Seamen's Union has replied to the statements made by the manager of the Union Company re the Mapourika. He said that the ship had'always been hard for three firemen. He traversed some of the statements made by Mr. Kennedy, and concludes by stating that the ship will not turn her head seawards unless one extra fireman is supplied. WATERSIDE WORKERS' STRIKE. Westport, Last Night. Through the failure of several members of the Waterside Workers' Union and railwaymen engaged as liookers-on at the coal waggons, to pay strike levies, the watcrsiders went out on strike this afternoon, but resumed at 0 p.m. The levies, it is stated, were paid in the meantime.
