John Redmond eulogising his indomitable perseverance in the ease of Home Rule, and congratulating him as Ireland's first Prime Minister. Melbourne. January 20. The United Irish League of Australia has cabled congratulating Mr. John Redmond and the Irish Party, and thanking Mr. Asquith and the Liberals for granting justice to Ireland. The Celtic Club also cabled to Mr. Redmond and his party. NO CIVIL WAR. I Received 20, 11.35 p.m. London, January 20. Mr. Trevelyan, speaking at Chester, said that no Tory bluster and no mob brutality would deter the Government. It was quite likely that there would be rioting in Belfast, owing to the deliberate encouragement of violence by men in high places, but nobody expected the pitiful passions that Sir E. Carson u as trying to arouse to lead to civil war. If they did, what could a handful of civilians do against tlu? British Army? THE NATIONALISTS WATCHFUL. THE WOMEN'S ATTITUDE. Received 20, 11.30 p.m. London, January 20. Mr. Redmond is urging the Nationalists to continue in full attendance in the House of Commons. The suffragettes and the Women's Liberal Federation threaten, in the event of rejection of the suffrage amendments, to abstain from further work for the Party.
