A cablegram from Melbourne states that Mr. Joseph Cook has been chosen as leader of the Federal Opposition. A Press Association cable states that the Hon. Joseph Chamberlain, accompanied by his wife, has gone to Cannes. Mr. Frederick Butterworth Las sufficiently recovered from the injuries-re-ceived in the Normanby motor >r accident to bo able to leave tl.-q Hawer.r Hospital. Mr. H. W. Were, late manager of the Bank of New Zealand, Mangaweka, yesterday took up the duties of manager of the Waitara branch of the Bank of New Zealand, succeeding Mr. GrimEtoiie. The Rev. Father McManus, of Inglewood, has been appointed successor to the late Father Costello in the administration of St. Patrick's parish (states the Manawatu Times). Father McManus has been in the Dominion about eight years. He was educated and ordained at St. Patrick's College, Turles, Couiuy Tipperary, Ireland, subsequently coming to New Zealand. Father McManus, who is a nephew of the Father McManus, a' well known priest formerly ministering in the Dominion, was for some <<me in New Plymouth.
